Creating your own essential oil blends utilizes similar skills as those needed for cooking, art, and music composition. It is the craft of combining different parts to make something that is whole.
An approach to blending that we like to use involves the conscious integration of body, mind, and spirit:
BODY = The science of aromatherapy. Learning the chemistry and theraputic values of essential oils, as well as safety data.
MIND = The art of aromatherapy. Using your creativity combined with your scientific information to create blends that smell great and work!
SPIRIT = The intuition of aromatherapy. Using your inner-wisdom to choose the oils that you are drawn to, noticing their subtle effects, checking them for safety and theraputic benefits based on your knowledge, and creating a blend that makes your heart sing!
CONVERTING DROP-COUNT RECIPES TO PERCENTAGES
Sometimes aromatherapy recipes are given in drop-count proportions for specific applications. If you find a percentage-type recipe easier to work with, you can apply the following conversion:
Step 1: Add together the total # of drops in your recipe.
Step 2: Divide 100 by the total # of drops.
Step 3: Multiply the recommended drops for EACH oil by the quotient from step 2 to get your percentages.
Check your work: All percentages should add up to a total of 100. (You may have to round slightly up or down.)
